Association of hospital employee satisfaction with patient safety and satisfaction within Veterans Affairs Medical Centers
American Journal of Medicine Feb 10, 2019
Kang R, et al. - Using data from the Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) via their Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning program, researchers studied the relationship between organizational satisfaction and job-specific satisfaction with measures of patient safety, patient satisfaction, and hospital rating. Using Pearson and Spearman's correlation, the association between employee satisfaction with their organization and with their specific job were examined across indicators of patient care. Findings revealed that employee job-specific satisfaction and satisfaction with the organization are distinct metrics in health care. There is no correlation between job-specific satisfaction and patient outcomes. Improved patient safety and greater patient satisfaction are associated with higher employee satisfaction with the organization.
