Selby LV, et al. - This study aimed at investigating the link between postoperative complications and hospital costs following total gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma. There appeared an association of major complications with tripled normalized costs following curative-intent total gastrectomy. Most of the excess costs were associated with the treatment of complications. Substantial cost savings could be achieved with interventions that decrease the number or severity of postoperative complications.
