Yen YF, Lai YJ, Chen YY, et al. - In this nationwide cohort study, researchers examined sudden cardiac death (SCD) risks in Taiwanese patients with and without HIV infection. Using the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control HIV surveillance system, they assessed 121,530 patients (24,306 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and 97,224 matched controls); of these, 5342 (4.40%) of died during a mean 5.86-year follow-up; among them, 150 (0.12%) died of SCD. The analysis revealed an independent value of HIV infection as a risk factor for SCD. PLWHA receiving antiretroviral therapy had low SCD rates.
