Association of high miR-182 levels with low-risk prostate cancer

American Journal of Pathology Mar 28, 2019

Baumann B, et al. - Researchers investigated if miR-182 (an miRNA with reported oncogenic functions in the prostate) had any impact on biochemical recurrence and aggressive disease. The expression of prostate epithelial miR-182 was measured via in situ hybridization of two microarrays of prostate tissue and laser-capture microdissection of prostate epithelium. Investigators observed significantly increased miR-182 in cancer epithelium vs adjacent benign epithelium. In a multivariate logistic regression model, the cancer ratio to benign miR-182 expression per patient was inversely related to recurrence. They concluded that miR-182 played a bimodal role in PCa. There may be a biphasic role played by this miRNA, evidenced by its higher expression of miR-182 in localized PCa and lower levels in aggressive cancers.
