Association of guideline-adherent antibiotic treatment with readmission of children with sickle cell disease hospitalized with acute chest syndrome
JAMA Pediatrics Nov 09, 2017
Bundy DG, et al. - This trial encompassed the elucidation of the patterns of antibiotic use for children with sickle cell disease (SCD) hospitalized for acute chest syndrome (ACS). Authors also analyzed if the receipt of guideline-adherent antibiotics was related to lower readmission rates. Wide variation was reported in the current approaches to antibiotic treatment in children with ACS. However, guideline-adherent therapy possibly led to fewer readmissions than with nonÂguideline-adherent therapy. A necessity arose for efforts to increase the dissemination and implementation of SCD treatment guidelines, along with comparative effectiveness research to strengthen the underlying evidence base.
