Association of glaucoma with risk of retinal vein occlusion: A meta-analysis
Acta Ophthalmologica Nov 10, 2019
Yin X, et al. - Via identifying a total of 2,273 published articles (814 from PubMed, 1447 from EMBASE and 12 from Cochrane), researchers examined the impacts of glaucoma on retinal vein occlusion (RVO) incidence and provided more reliable and more evidential data for clinical diagnosis. The odds ratio (OR) of glaucoma as a risk factor for RVO was 4.01 in all studies. The pooled OR exhibited that glaucoma was linked to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and hemiretinal vein occlusion (HRVO) in RVO subtype-differentiated subgroup analyses (six studies). Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and chronic open-angle glaucoma (COAG) were significant risk factors for RVO development in glaucoma-classified subgroup analyses (five studies). Findings suggested an association of glaucoma with the risk of RVO. It is important to keep in mind glaucoma when examining RVO patients in the clinic.
