Association of gender with clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients: A retrospective analysis of 1,190 cases
Respiratory Medicine Sep 30, 2020
Liu J, Zhang L, Chen Y, et al. - By retrospectively examining detailed clinical data for 1,190 cases of adult patients with confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), researchers explored the link between sex and clinical results in patients suffering from COVID-19. For this purpose, they performed multivariable Cox regression analysis. This study involved 635 (53.4%) male and 555 (46.6%) female patients. Male patients were found to have higher rates of acute kidney injury, acute cardiac injury, and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Overall, a worse prognosis of COVID-19 in correlation with male gender was revealed in this study but male gender appeared not to be an independent prognostic factor.
