Association of Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery certification with outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by surgical residents
JAMA Dec 24, 2018
Dubina ED, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine the association of Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) certification with results of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) performed by surgical residents. The FLS program was developed to evaluate the skills and knowledge that surgeons need as laparoscopy developed with the aim of improving the quality of care and safety, including reducing complication rates. Researchers hypothesized that following LC, the implementation of mandatory FLS certification would not significantly alter resident performance or patient results. As laparoscopy has become the mainstream, the ongoing value of FLS certification is called into question as a high- stake examination.
