Association of fresh embryo transfers compared with cryopreserved-thawed embryo transfers with live birth rate among women undergoing assisted reproduction using freshly retrieved donor oocytes
JAMA Jan 16, 2021
Insogna IG, Lanes A, Lee MS, et al. - Researchers examined if fresh embryo transfers are more likely to result in live birth than cryopreserved-thawed embryo transfers in freshly retrieved donor oocyte cycles. They conducted a retrospective cohort study of 33,863 women undergoing assisted reproduction using freshly retrieved donor oocytes, with 51,942 embryo transfer cycles, using national data obtained from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. A live birth rate of 56.6% vs 44.0% was observed for fresh embryo transfers compared with cryopreserved-thawed embryo transfers; the adjusted difference was statistically significant. These findings suggest that in cycles using fresh donor oocytes, a higher live birth rate is achieved in correlation with fresh embryo transfers compared with cryopreserved-thawed embryo transfers.
