Association of free androgen index and sex hormone–binding globulin and left ventricular hypertrophy in postmenopausal hypertensive women
The Journal of Clinical Hypertension Jun 15, 2021
Jianshu C, Qiongying W, Ying P, et al. - Among 378 postmenopausal hypertensive women, it was inquired whether and how androgen was related to left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in this population. There was an LVH group (n = 172) and non-LVH group (n = 206) in this study. Depending on the outcome of propensity score matching analysis, 160 cases in each group were matched successfully. In postmenopausal women with hypertension, LVH was shown to be impacted by free androgen index (FAI) and sex hormone–binding globulin (SHBG), following correction for confounding factors by various models. In this study population, LVH occurrence was revealed to be positively correlated with FAI and negatively correlated with SHBG. In postmenopausal hypertension, FAI level elevation and SHBG level reduction may be associated with the occurrence as well as development of LVH.
