Association of frailty with clinical outcomes in myelofibrosis: A retrospective cohort study
British Journal of Haematology Jun 20, 2021
Bankar A, Alibhai S, Smith E, et al. - Via this retrospective cohort study, researchers sought to gain insight into the influence of frailty on clinical results in patients with myelofibrosis (MF). They analyzed 439 chronic phase MF patients [mean age: 68·7 ± 12 years; median follow-up: 3·4 years (IQR 0·4–8·6)]. Employing a 35-variable frailty index (FI), participants were classified as fit (FI < 0·2, reference), prefrail (FI 0·2–0·29) or frail (FI ≥ 0·3), based on their frailty status. Findings revealed that worse overall survival and increased JAK inhibitor failure in MF were observed in relation to higher frailty scores. Also, assessing frailty provides a superior indicator of fitness than age, comorbidities, and performance status.
