Association of food insecurity and acute healthcare utilization in children with end-stage kidney disease
JAMA Sep 18, 2019
Starr MC, et al. - Researchers determined the correlation of food insecurity and acute healthcare utilization in children with end-stage kidney disease. Food insecurity, defined as the uncertain availability of nutritionally sufficient food, is a prevalent and essential social determinant of health found in more than 20% of US households. Pediatric food insecurity is more prevalent in children with chronic medical conditions and is related to worse outcomes and elevated healthcare costs. Dialysis places an important burden on families, however, less is known about food insecurity in this population.
