Bjork M, et al. - This study was performed to investigate whether folic acid supplementation and folate status in pregnancy were correlated with reduced risk of autistic traits owing to in utero antiepileptic drug (AED) exposure. Among children who were exposed to AEDs in utero, the risk of autistic traits could be mitigated by periconceptional folic acid supplementation and folate status. Fertile women using AEDs ought to take folic acid supplements continuously.
