Association of first-trimester HbA1c levels with adverse pregnancy outcomes in different ethnic groups
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Mar 20, 2019
Mañé L, et al. - In a multi-ethnic cohort, researchers identified the association of first-trimester HbA1c levels with the development of pregnancy complications. Caucasian, South-Central Asian and Latin-American were the three main ethnic groups in this analysis. They performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis to adjust for potential confounders in determining the connection between different HbA1c cut-off points and obstetric outcomes on each ethnic group. In this prospective study involving 1,882 pregnancies, HbA1c levels in the first-trimester are a suitable predictor of pregnancy complications in South Central Asian and Latin American women, whereas no significant associations have been found in Caucasian women.
