Association of family history with incidence and outcomes of aortic dissection
Journal of the American College of Cardiology Sep 04, 2020
Chen SW, Kuo CF, Huang YT, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the impact of a family history of aortic dissection (AD) on the incidence and prognosis of AD and estimate the heritability and environmental contribution in AD in Taiwan. Researchers performed both cross-sectional and cohort studies applying the Taiwan National Health Insurance database. They applied a registry parent–offspring relationship algorithm to reconstruct the genealogy of this population for heritability estimation. A total of 23,868 patients with a diagnosis of AD were included in the cross-sectional study in 2015. It was shown that for AD, a family history of AD was a strong risk factor. Moreover, the results indicate that individuals with AD with a family history of AD had a higher risk of later aortic surgery than those with no family history of AD.
