Association of excessive daytime sleepiness with longitudinal β-amyloid accumulation in elderly persons without dementia
JAMA Neurology Mar 19, 2018
Carvalho DZ, et al. - Experts undertook an analysis to determine if excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) at baseline correlated with a longitudinal increase in regional β-amyloid (Aβ) accumulation in elderly individuals without dementia. A connection was revealed between baseline EDS with increased longitudinal Aβ accumulation in elderly persons without dementia, which pointed that those with EDS appeared to be more vulnerable to pathologic changes related to Alzheimer's disease. A reduction could be achieved in the Aβ accumulation in this vulnerable group by early detection of subjects with EDS and treatment of underlying sleep disorders.
