Association of erythrocyte n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids with incident type 2 diabetes in a Chinese population
Clinical Nutrition Oct 05, 2018
Zheng JS, et al. - In a Chinese population of 2,671 study participants aged 40-75 years who were free of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at baseline, researchers analyzed the association of erythrocyte n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) with incident type 2 diabetes. Cases of incident T2DM (n=213) were identified during a median follow-up of 5.6 years. Findings suggested an inverse association of erythrocyte n-3 PUFA from marine sources (C22:5n-3 and C20:5n-3), as biomarkers of dietary marine n-3 PUFA, with incident T2DM in this patient population.
