Association of Toxoplasma gondii seropositivity with cognitive function in healthy people: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Psychiatry Oct 10, 2021
de Haan L, Sutterland AL, Schotborgh JV, et al. - In view of the described correlation of the parasite Toxoplasma gondii with behavioral alterations and psychiatric disorders, researchers aim to examine if in otherwise healthy people, Toxoplasma gondii seropositivity is linked with alterations in cognitive function.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 studies involving 13,289 healthy individuals.
Findings suggest a modest but significant relationship between T gondii seropositivity and impaired performance on cognitive tests in all analyzed domains (processing speed, working memory, short-term verbal memory, and executive functioning).
A significant correlation appeared between older age and executive functioning on performing meta-regression analysis.
