Association of Ebola virus infection with hearing loss in regions where Ebola virus infection is endemic: A systematic review

Xu MJ, et al. - Researchers explored the connection between Ebola virus infection and hearing loss in regions where Ebola virus infection is endemic in this systematic review of 15 studies describing 1775 survivors of Ebola virus infection and 363 uninfected controls. The reported odds ratios for hearing loss in survivors was 7.50 in studies comparing survivors with controls. The odds ratio of hearing loss among survivors vs controls in countries where Ebola virus infection is endemic was 1.84, including all studies. According to findings, Ebola virus infection survivors had higher hearing loss rates compared to uninfected controls in regions where the infection is endemic.
