Association of early myocardial workload and mortality following severe traumatic brain injury
Critical Care Medicine May 21, 2018
Krishnamoorthy V, et al. - Authors evaluated the effect of early myocardial workload on in-hospital mortality following isolated severe traumatic brain injury. They collected the data from the National Trauma Databank, a multicenter trauma registry operated by the American College of Surgeons, from 2007 to 2014. Findings suggested that heterogeneous myocardial workload profiles that have a “U-shaped” relationship with mortality, even in the presence of a normal blood pressure were experienced by the adults with severe traumatic brain injury. The results of this study are novel and demonstrate the importance of cardiac performance following severe traumatic brain injury.
