Association of disease definition, comorbidity burden, and prognosis with hip fracture probability among late-life women
JAMA Aug 09, 2019
Ensrud KE, et al. - Researchers examined how disease definition, comorbidity burden, and prognosis are associated with 5-year hip fracture probabilities among women 80 years and older via performing a prospective cohort study that included 1,528 women, (mean age: 84.1 years). Women with osteoporosis vs women without osteoporosis but at high fracture risk were at over three-fold higher 5-year hip fracture risk after accounting for the competing risk of death. Women with a greater number of comorbidities or poorer prognosis displayed the between-group difference even more pronouncedly.
