Association of diabetes mellitus and biomarkers of abnormal glucose metabolism with incident radiographic knee osteoarthritis

Rogers-Soeder TS, et al. - A total of 987 individuals were researched to assess the relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) as well as biomarkers of abnormal glucose metabolism and incident radiographic knee osteoarthritis (RKOA), comparing for body mass index (BMI). They measured baseline serum fasting glucose and insulin resistance (homeostasis model of assessment [HOMA-IR]). In males, after adjustment for BMI, they observed no association of odds of incident RKOA with baseline DM status nor with levels of fasting glucose and HOMA-IR overall was noted.
