Association of coronary anatomical complexity with clinical outcomes after percutaneous or surgical revascularization in the Veterans Affairs Clinical Assessment Reporting and Tracking Program
JAMA Cardiology Aug 29, 2019
Valle JA, Glorioso TJ, Bricker R, et al. - In this cross-sectional observational cohort study, researchers investigated whether a simplified anatomical scoring system adapted for registry data can reproduce the established links between increasing anatomical complexity and adverse outcomes post-revascularization. Overall 50,226 patients undergoing percutaneous or surgical revascularization identified from the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System were included in this multiple-center study. As per findings, a link between increasing anatomical complexity and adverse events was identified among patients undergoing percutaneous revascularization but not among patients undergoing surgical revascularization, by adapting the Veterans Affairs SYNTAX simplified anatomical scoring system for coronary artery disease complexity. For understanding longitudinal risk across large data sets, this simplified scoring system seems to be an alternative tool.
