Association of comorbid mood and anxiety disorders with autism spectrum disorder
JAMA Pediatrics Jan 12, 2020
Kirsch AC, Huebner ARS, Mehta SQ, et al. - Using data from a population-based birth cohort of 31 220 individuals born in Olmsted County, Minnesota, from January 1, 1976, to December 31, 2000, researchers conducted this cohort study to ascertain if people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were at greater risk for comorbid diagnoses of depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. The study was attended by 1,014 individuals with ASD and 2,028 referents. In comparison with age- and gender-matched referents, people with ASD were significantly more inclined to have clinically diagnosed bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. Therefore, this investigation reinforces the significance of early, ongoing surveillance and targeted treatments to discuss the psychiatric requirements of people with ASD.
