Association of circulating chemerin with subclinical parameters of atherosclerosis: Results of a population-based study
Journal American Heart Association Jul 02, 2018
Zylla S, et al. - Researchers used a population-based sample to determine how plasma chemerin levels correlate with different subclinical measurements of atherosclerosis. They found a modest inverse link between chemerin and ankle-brachial index, and this link was consistent even after adjustment for metabolic and inflammatory parameters. They also noted that, after adjusting for the same confounders, no significant correlation between chemerin and carotid intima-media thickness, carotid plaque, or carotid stenosis was evident. The atherosclerotic burden of different arterial regions and different disease stages was represented by the identified subclinical atherosclerotic parameters. Possibly, the value of chemerin as a marker of higher atherosclerotic risk differs depending on the affected arterial region and disease stage.
