Association of chronic rhinosinusitis with depression and anxiety in a nationwide insurance population
JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Feb 11, 2019
Kim JY, et al. - In this retrospective nationwide cohort study, using population-based insurance data investigators assessed 16,224 candidates with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and 32,448 individuals without CRS to estimate the hazards of depression and anxiety, depending on the CRS phenotype (CRS without nasal polyps [CRSsNP] and CRS with nasal polyps [CRSwNP]) from July 1, 2018 to November 15, 2018. They noticed a 1.51-fold higher incidence of depression in the CRS group during the 11-year follow-up as compared to in the non-CRS group (24.2 vs 16.0 per 1000 person-years). They also found a higher incidence of anxiety in the CRS group than in the comparison group (42.2 vs 27.8 per 1000 person-years).
