Association of childhood body mass index and change in body mass index with first adult ischemic stroke
JAMA Neurology Nov 17, 2017
Gjaerde LK, et al. - The researchers examined the association of childhood body mass index (BMI) and change in BMI with first adult ischemic stroke. In addition, they evaluated whether the associations were age dependent or influenced by birth weight. Above-average childhood BMI and increases in BMI during childhood were positively correlated with early adult ischemic stroke, independent of birth weight. These outcomes recommended that all children needed to be helped to attain and maintain healthy weights to avoid the occurrence of early ischemic stroke associated with childhood overweight and obesity.
