Association of cancer relapse with autologous fat transfer vs conventional breast reconstruction in patients with breast cancer
JAMA Jan 22, 2019
Krastev T, et al. - Researchers assessed 587 candidates with a mean age of 48.1 years to investigate the association of exposure to autologous fat transfer (AFT or fat grafting) vs conventional breast reconstruction with increased rates of cancer relapse in breast cancer. They recorded 8 locoregional recurrences in the treatment group and 11 in the control group (unadjusted hazard ratio 0.63). After 5 years, no increased locoregional recurrence rates based on the type of oncological surgery, tumor invasiveness, or pathological stage were seen. Additionally, they detected no increased risks with AFT with regards to distant recurrences or breast cancer-specific mortality.
