Association of cancer cell type and extracellular vesicles with coagulopathy in patients with lung cancer and stroke
Stroke Jun 03, 2018
Chung JW, et al. - Given that coagulopathy is an important cause of stroke in cancer patients, the researchers investigated the underlying mechanisms and clinical factors related to coagulopathy in this study. They hypothesized that certain characteristics of cancer affect coagulopathy in patients with lung cancer and ischemic stroke. They prospectively studied consecutive patients with active lung cancer and acute ischemic stroke in this analysis. Using flow cytometry, volume and pattern of acute brain infarcts and plasma levels of circulating tumor extracellular vesicles (EVs) were measured. In patients with lung cancer and stroke, cancer cell type was correlated with circulating EV levels and coagulopathy.
