Association of breast cancer risk after childhood cancer with radiation dose to the breast and anthracycline use: A report from the childhood cancer survivor study
JAMA Pediatrics Dec 17, 2019
Veiga LH, Curtis RE, Morton, et al. - Data analysis was done on 271 women of breast cancer cases from September 2017 to July 2018 in order to estimate the risk of breast cancer in childhood cancer survivors after radiotherapy and chemotherapy and evaluate whether risks differed by estrogen receptor (ER) status. Following analysis, the study gave the first evidence to date that compared with the use of neither treatment, the alliance of anthracyclines and radiotherapy could raise breast cancer risks with a comparable radiation dose-response for ER+ and ER– cancers and potentially greater anthracycline risks for ER+ cancers. Moreover, for childhood cancer survivors, these outcomes might suggest informed surveillance guidelines.
