Association of blood pressure with outcomes in acute stroke thrombectomy
Hypertension Feb 22, 2020
Malhotra K, Goyal N, Katsanos AH, et al. - By analyzing 25 studies with 6,474 patients, researchers assessed the link of blood pressure (BP) levels on clinical results in patients who suffered an acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion managed with mechanical thrombectomy (MT). The studies describing the link of systolic BP (SBP) or diastolic BP levels prior to, during, or following MT on the results of patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with MT, were identified. Experts carried out unadjusted as well as adjusted analyses of studies describing odds ratios per 10 mm Hg BP increase. Rising post-MT maximum SBP and diastolic BP levels were shown to be related to 3-month mortality and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, respectively, in adjusted analyses. Lower odds of 3-month functional independence were reported in relation to rising pre- and post-MT mean SBP levels. Overall, findings revealed the link of high BP levels, pre- as well as post-MT, with adverse results in patients with acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion.
