Association of blood pressure with clinical outcomes in older adults with chronic kidney disease
Age and Aging Mar 08, 2019
Masoli JAH, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study involving nearly 160,000 adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD)3 and over 6,600 with CKD4—who were free of diabetes or proteinuria at baseline—from the United Kingdom, researchers assessed 10-year mortality and cardiovascular consequences via clinical systolic blood pressure (SBP) measurement. Investigators noted an uptick in mortality with developing CKD stage in those of aged > 60 years, but did not observe any increase those over age 70 years with SBPs 140–169 mmHg. SBPs < 120 mmHg were associated with increased mortality and cardiovascular risk. In all, CKD3 or 4 was determined to be the principal outcome predictor among older primary care patients.
