Association of blood pressure lowering with mortality and cardiovascular disease across blood pressure levels: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Internal Medicine | Nov 17, 2017
Brunstrom M, et al. - The correlation between blood pressure (BP) lowering treatment and death and cardiovascular disease (CVD) at different BP levels, were comprehensively contemplated by the authors. The results shed light on the link between primary preventive BP lowering with reduced risk for death and CVD if baseline systolic BP (SBP) was 140 mm Hg or higher. Treatment did not display a connection with any benefit in primary prevention, at lower BP levels. However, it could offer additional protection for patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).
