Association of blood component ratios with 24-hour mortality in injured children receiving massive transfusion
Critical Care Medicine Jun 20, 2019
Butler EK, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers used the Pediatric Trauma Quality Improvement Program Database (2014-2016) to focus on the possibility of links of higher fresh frozen plasma and platelet to packed RBC ratios with lower 24-hour death in bleeding pediatric trauma patients. They found lower 24-hour mortality in massively transfused pediatric trauma patients in relation to higher fresh frozen plasma ratios. Findings revealed no link between platelet ratio and mortality. The results represent the largest investigation assessing blood product ratios in pediatric trauma patients.
