Association of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo with vitamin D deficiency: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Oct 12, 2018
AlGarni MA, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers explored the potential associations of vitamin D level with the occurrence and recurrence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) disease. They conducted a comprehensive literature search using various databases to identify and obtain relevant articles. Of the 703 studies identified, 7 met inclusion criteria. Data showed that the review failed to establish a relationship between BPPV occurrence and low vitamin D level, despite that negative vitamin D balance has been reported among some patients with BPPV. The investigators, however, did observe that low vitamin D level was significantly evident in patients with recurrent BPPV.
