Association of atrial fibrillation with white matter disease: The ARIC Study
Stroke Apr 13, 2019
Shao IY, et al. - In this investigation, researchers studied the relationship between prevalent atrial fibrillation (AF) and white matter disease (WMD), a possible mechanism relating AF to cognitive impairment, using multivariable linear regression models. For this analysis, they involved participants in the ARIC-NCS (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities–Neurocognitive Study) who had brain magnetic resonance imaging from 2011 to 2013. According to the results, 133 participants had AF prevalent among 1,899 participants. The results obtained from the cross-sectional analysis indicate that prevalent AF and WMD were not associated.
