Association of atherosclerosis prevalence with age, race, and traditional risk factors in patients with psoriasis
JAMA Dermatology Feb 23, 2019
Arnold KA, et al. - In this dual-center study, researchers described the relationship between specific features of psoriasis (chronic skin condition associated with systemic inflammation) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Information is scarce regarding the impact of race- and age-specific factors on this relationship. Still, they noticed a linear correlation with the severity and duration of skin disease. They could not verify an association between psoriasis and atherosclerosis in the absence of traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Overall, many studies support that atherosclerosis is promoted by inflammation, resulting in the correlation between atherosclerosis and psoriasis.
