Association of anti–programmed cell death 1 cutaneous toxic effects with outcomes in patients with advanced melanoma
JAMA Oncology May 06, 2019
Quach HT, et al. - Researchers retrospectively investigated if outcomes in patients with advanced melanoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors are correlated to cutaneous toxic effects. Observations suggest that key mediators of immune tolerance are blocked by immune checkpoint inhibitors block, leading to antitumor responses and autoimmunelike toxic effects. Immune activation against host tissues is suggested by the toxic effects, however, no clarity was gained regarding if this off-target activity indicates concurrent antitumor immunity.
