Association of an acute myocardial infarction readmission-reduction program with mortality and readmission
Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes May 22, 2020
Wasfy JH, Hidrue MK, Ngo J, et al. - Researchers investigated if and how thirty-day readmission and mortality were influenced by implementing an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) readmissions reduction program. They initiated an AMI readmissions reduction program in November 2017, and analyzed hospital billing data from July 2016 to February 2019 to identify all inpatient hospitalizations at the Massachusetts General Hospital for AMI. Via hospital billing data, 30-day readmission was determined, and electronic health record was used to ascertain mortality. This study involved 2,020 patients after the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Findings revealed decreased 30-day readmission and 30-day mortality in relation to an AMI readmissions reduction program that enhanced outpatient and emergency department access to cardiology care.
