Association of air pollution with increased risk of peritonsillar abscess formation
JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Jun 27, 2019
Kim SY, et al. - In this investigation involving 3819 participants, researchers assessed the connection between meteorological conditions [ie, temperature, humidity, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter less than 10 μg (PM10, μg/m3)] and/or air pollution and peritonsillar abscess formation. The results obtained from this nested case-control study indicate that peritonsillar abscess formation was linked to high concentrations of NO2 and PM10. Overall, the authors concluded that NO2 and PM10 air pollutants can be risk factors for the formation of peritonsillar abscess.
