Association of adolescent hypertension with future end-stage renal disease
JAMA Mar 01, 2019
Leiba A, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers examined the correlation between established hypertension and future end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in a cohort of 2.65 million otherwise healthy adolescents (aged 16-19 years) for military service in Israel. Prior to military service, participants underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation. They excluded people with evidence of renal damage or kidney-related risk factors. Overall, well-established adolescent hypertension doubled the risk of future ESRD, regardless of overweight or hypertension severity.
