Association of acute kidney injury with outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter mitral valve repair
Cardiology Jun 18, 2021
Nazir S, Ahuja KR, Kolte D, et al. - By using the National Readmission Database, researchers assessed risk factors for acute kidney injury (AKI), as well as examined its link with outcomes in patients receiving transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr). TMVr procedures conducted between January 2014 and December 2017 were included. There were 14,623 patients who underwent TMVr, of which 2,001 (13.6%) had a diagnosis of AKI. An elevated risk of in-hospital mortality, 30-day all-cause readmissions, 30-day heart failure readmissions, and longer index length of stay, all were reported in relation to AKI. Overall, among patients undergoing TMVr, occurrence of AKI was common and was related to worse clinical results.
