Association of acute kidney injury with cardiovascular events and death in Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial
American Journal of Nephrology Apr 05, 2019
Dieter BP, et al. - Via this post hoc analysis, researchers examined any correlation between acute kidney injury (AKI) and risk of major cardiovascular events and death among older hypertensive adults. The participants were assigned to a systolic blood pressure target of < 120 mm Hg (intensive) or < 140 mm Hg (standard). A composite of myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome, stroke, decompensated heart failure, or cardiovascular death defined primary outcome; the secondary outcome was mortality from any cause. Increased risk of AKI was observed to be independently related to intensive blood pressure treatment among older adults with hypertension at high cardiovascular risk; this resulted in a considerable elevation of risks of major cardiovascular events and death.
