Association of abdominal muscle composition with prediabetes and diabetes: The CARDIA Study
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Sep 03, 2018
Granados A, et al. - This study was carried out to assess the association of prediabetes and diabetes with abdominal muscle lean and adipose tissue volumes by measuring abdominal muscle composition in 3,170 participants in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) Study who had computed tomography (CT) at year 25 (ages 43-55 years) of follow-up. Findings suggested, even after adjustment for visceral adipose tissue, an association of higher intermuscular adipose tissue with higher prevalence of diabetes. Researchers found that finding were not greatly changed after adjusting for cardiorespiratory fitness.
