Association of a history of child abuse with impaired myelination in the anterior cingulate cortex: Convergent epigenetic, transcriptional, and morphological evidence
American Journal of Psychiatry Dec 08, 2017
Lutz PE, et al. - This study was performed to test the hypothesis that epigenetic, transcriptomic, and cellular adaptations could occur in the anterior cingulate cortex as a function of child abuse. The authors suggested that child abuse could lastingly disrupt cortical myelination (a fundamental feature of cerebral connectivity) in part through an epigenetic reprogramming of oligodendrocytes.
