Association between vestibular vertigo and motor vehicle accidents: Data from the 2016 national health interview survey

Wei EX, et al. – In this study, experts evaluated if individuals with vestibular vertigo are more likely to be involved in motor vehicle accidents vs individuals without vestibular vertigo. Results demonstrated an association of vestibular vertigo with an over threefold increased odds of motor vehicle accidents. The researchers found that vestibular dysfunction was associated with driving impairment. Findings provided a relative risk of motor vehicle accidents related to vestibular vertigo that may be used in counseling patients on the potential safety hazards of driving.
