Hsu HE, et al. -In this study, investigators analyzed data to examine the relationship between two value-based incentive programs (VBIPs) and catheter-associated urinary tract infections in the critical care setting. The two VBIPs—the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program and the Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program— targeted health care–associated infections reported to the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network, with the aim of facilitating improvements in quality and reducing costs by linking financial incentives or penalties to hospital performance.
