Association between urologic malignancies and end-stage renal disease: A meta-analysis
Nephrology Jul 03, 2018
Kompotiatis P, et al. - In end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, researchers used literature data to assess the pooled incidence and incidence trends, as well as the risk, of urologic malignancies. They used a random-effect model to calculate pooled odds ratios (OR) and 95% CI. They analyzed overall 19 observational studies with 1,931,073 ESRD patients. Findings revealed a significant link between ESRD and urologic malignancies. Data reported 0.4% and 0.5% to be the overall estimated incidence rates of kidney cancer and urothelial cancers, respectively. Also, a significant positive relationship was seen between the incidence of urologic malignancies and year of study.
