Association between ultrasound-detected synovitis and knee pain: A population-based case–control study with both cross-sectional and follow-up data

Sarmanova A, et al. - Researchers sought to investigate if there exists any link between ultrasonography-detected synovial changes and knee pain (KP) in a community population. They found that ultrasound effusion and synovial hypertrophy were associated with KP, but KP worsening was only predicted by effusion. However, the association/prediction was not independent from radiographic osteoarthritis (ROA). Data showed that in patients with KP, Power Doppler signal was uncommon.
