Association between ultraprocessed food consumption and risk of mortality among middle-aged adults in France
JAMA Internal Medicine Feb 16, 2019
Schnabel L, et al. - In this cohort study with 44,551 French adults 45 years or older, researchers evaluated the relationship between consumption of ultraprocessed foods and risk of all-cause mortality. Findings suggested an association of ultraprocessed foods consumption with younger age, lower income, lower educational level, living alone, higher body mass index, and lower physical activity level. The data presented in this work showed a 10% rise in the percentage of ultraprocessed food consumption was statistically significantly linked to a 14% greater risk of all-cause mortality. Among this adult population, an increase in ultraprocessed foods consumption seems to be related to an overall higher mortality risk.
